Current Volunteer Opportunities and Internships:

After School Tutors, English

We are seeking adult and teen tutors for our After School Program, which is aimed at helping Latino high school students work to improve grades and to increase the likelihood of college acceptance.  We welcome tutors in all subject areas.  Tutors should enjoy working with high-school aged children. Speaking Spanish is not required, nor is having experience or training as a tutor.

The After School Program is in session Monday-Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Centro de Enlace. We ask that tutors commit to at least one day a week through the end of the school term.

After School Program Leaders, English

We are looking for two program leaders for our After School Program. The program provides an opportunity for high school students from our Latino community to improve grades and increase the likelihood of their college acceptance.  Program leaders should be energetic with strong leadership skills and some experience working with young people.  In addition to helping students with schoolwork, program leaders will serve as coordinators for tutors and group activities.  Speaking Spanish is not a requirement for this position.

The After School Program is in session Monday-Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Centro de Enlace. This can be a shared position (one-to-two days a week).  We ask for a commitment through the end of the school term.

Bilingual Outreach Workers, English and Spanish

We are seeking friendly, responsible volunteers to work one-on-one with our clients from the Latino community, helping them to access the services they need.  Main responsibilities include interpreting and filling out applications for basic services such as Medicaid and food stamps, answering phones, and assisting with computer classes at Centro de Enlace.  Bilingual Outreach Workers should have a conversational command of both English and Spanish.

To enhance the effectiveness of this service, we ask for a minimum commitment of 1 to 2 hrs a week for at least 10 weeks.  Centro de Enlace will provide training.

Fundraising Event Coordinators, English

We are seeking a coordinator to organize a fundraising event.  Centro de Enlace will be holding an open house to host a membership drive for all community members.  We are looking for responsible, enthusiastic volunteers to organize food, music, and activities and to promote the event throughout Yancey County.  Speaking Spanish is not required for this position.

We ask for a commitment of at least 3 hours a week for 4 weeks for this position.

We are also seeking volunteers for general fundraising, including letter campaigns and foundation research.

Research Assistants, English and Spanish

We are seeking volunteers to conduct surveys in Spanish.  Research Assistants will gather information from our clients that will help us to evaluate our current programs and determine the greatest needs in the Latino community.  Speaking Spanish is required for this position.

We ask for a commitment of at least 1 hour a week for 8 weeks or until the project is finished.

Database Coordinator, English

We are looking for a volunteer proficient in Microsoft Access to help us restructure our databases.  This position will coordinate our client and our membership databases and help us to extract statistics more efficiently so that we can evaluate our services.  Speaking Spanish is not required for this position.

For this position, we ask for a commitment of at least 1 hour a week for 8 weeks or until the project is finished.

Website Translators, English and Spanish

We are seeking volunteers at an advanced Spanish level to edit and complete the translation of our website, started by our summer interns, as well as other written materials, such as client evaluations.  This position will help us make our website more accessible to the Spanish-speaking community.

For this position, we ask for a commitment of at least 1 hour a week for 8 weeks or until the project is finished.
